Starting at Iwo Jima Memorial as usual,
pass over the Potomac River and the C&O Canal on Key Bridge,
then turn right down M St. through Georgetown,
bear right on Pennsylvania Ave. and take this all the way to the Capitol.
On the way, you'll have to curl around to the left of the White House (look for "Dubya" here) next to Lafeyette Park and get back on Pennsylvania Ave.
at the other side of Freedom Plaza. Run towards the Capitol.
On this section of Pennsylvania you will see the Old Post Office, Federal Triangle, the Canadian Embassy, and other landmarks.
Just before reaching the Capitol, go diagonally left up Louisiana Ave. to Union Station on the Marine Corps Marathon route.
Turn right in front of Union Station then right on First St. NE to go by the back side of the Capitol in front of the Supreme Court.
Turn right on Independence Ave, and get on the National Mall to run past the Air and Space Museum, the Smithsonian, Washington Monument, the Ellipse, the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials and various other sites.
At the Lincoln Memorial, turn left along Ohio Drive and the Potomac River. You will see the FDR Memorial to the left in West Potomac Park. After 3/4 mile, just before the little Inlet Bridge, do not cross the little Inlet Bridge, but instead turn left and run clockwise around the Tidal Basin.
At the beginning of this 1.5 mile Tidal Basin loop stay on the upper sidewalk so you can run right through the scenic FDR Memorial.At the end of the Tidal Basin loop, pass the Jefferson Memorial on your right,
cross 14th St. Bridge, take a gander at the Pentagon,
turn right on the Mt. Vernon Trail along the river then left before Memorial
Bridge, viewing Lee's House on the hill by Arlington Cemetery, then back
by the Netherlands Carrilion and finish at the Iwo Jima Memorial.
