Directions to SLR's Iwo Jima Starting Point
Runners can park either along the west side of the little road that circles the Memorial (this is where we meet), or on the streets just west of the memorial, which can be accessed from Rosslyn by passing over Rt. 50. Look for the little red "P"s on the map below. Carpooling is encouraged so we don't take up as many total parking spots. Also, there is an official 1 hr. limit on parking at Iwo Jima. Although this has never been enforced, you may want to park on the street.
Directions from Virginia via I-395: Go North on 395 to Exit 8B. Just past the Pentagon, turn right at the sign for Pentagon North Parking. Then quickly turn right two more times and merge onto 110 towards Rosslyn. One mile later, turn left at the sign for Iwo Jima Memorial. Turn right at the little United States Marine Memorial sign. Proceed to the road that circles around the Iwo Jima Memorial and go around almost all the way, then park.
Directions from Virginia via I-66: Go East on I66 to exit 75. Take your first right at the Iwo Jima Memorial. Turn right at the top of the little hill where the little sign says United States Marine Memorial. Proceed to the road that circles around the Iwo Jima Memorial and go around almost all the way, then park.
Directions from Maryland / Rockville:Go South on 495, just across the American Legion Bridge, then take the GW Parkway exit. Follow the parkway all the way in to the Rt. 50 / Roosevelt Bridge exit. Stay right on this ramp towards Rt. 50 / Rosslyn. You will be on Rt. 50 for a couple seconds, then take the Rosslyn / Key Bridge ramp. At the top of the ramp, carefully turn left toward Fort Myer. Turn left at the Iwo Jima Memorial sign. Turn left at the little United States Marine Memorial sign. Proceed to the road that circles around the Iwo Jima Memorial and go around almost all the way, then park.
Directions from Northwest D.C. / Georgetown: Cross Key Bridge in Georgetown into Rosslyn. Stay straight on Fort Myer Rd. through Rosslyn, and cross over the little bridge over Rt. 50 and keep proceeding toward Fort Myer. Turn left at the Iwo Jima Memorial sign. Turn left at the little United States Marine Memorial sign. Proceed to the road that circles around the Iwo Jima Memorial and go around almost all the way, then park.
