Running the DMV Since 1961
Club History
DC Road Runners was founded in 1961 by Hugh Jascourt. The club is a member of the Road Runners Club of America. The club’s mission has always been to promote the sport of running within the local community, doing so through a combination of structured training and racing programs. Jascourt established the Snowball and Bunion Derby series races, which are are longstanding features of the club and are open to members and non-members alike.
Over time, the running events that DCRR has managed have changed due to jurisdictional circumstances. Some of the club’s most prominent events have included the DCRRC Track Championships, the George Washington Birthday Marathon, the National Capital 20 Miler, and the Alexandria Turkey Trot. Starting in 2026, DCRR revitalized the Four Courts Four Miler, a race with strong ties to Northern Virginia and to the club.
DC Road Runners founder Gar Williams was also responsible for creating the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler, which, though now managed separately from the club, is a premier world distance running event.
Throughout its history, DC Road Runners has been open to runners of all ability levels who are seeking a committed and supportive environment to help them achieve their goals.
We hope that you will run with us.
