Club Members & Guests:
LOTS OF NEWS TO FOLLOW HERE ON THE NATIONAL MARATHON, THE DCRRC ANNUAL MEETING, AWARDS CEREMONY, AND BANQUET, AND RRCA COACHING CERTIFICATION. THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION!
ALSO, DON'T MISS PAGE 33 (I THINK) OF THE APRIL 2008 RUNNERS WORLD MAGAZINE. DCRRC PROMINENTLY FEATURED!
1. Sun Trust National Marathon and Half-Marathon:
(a) Volunteers are still needed for course marshalls. Please consult the National Marathon website, and click on the volunteer link. Jay Wind is the volunteer coordinator for the race, and can be contacted directly.
jwind@gwsportsalliance.com OR jay.wind@att.net
(b) DCRRC is responsible for the athlete bag-check. Ted Cochrane is heading up that effort. Several more volunteers are needed. Those running the half-marathon can certainly help in this effort, by staffing the bag-check area after you have finished. Contact Ted at
tedc@mitre.org
(c) DCRRC will have its own table at pre-race packet pick-up. This will take place from 11 am to 9 pm on Friday, March 28th at the DC Armory. PLEASE ATTEND PACKET PICK-UP TO GET YOUR RACE NUMBER AND CHIP! Then, visit the DCRRC table for great deals on DCRRC merchandise!
(d) DCRRC also will have TWO tents at the Athlete's villege -- meaning you do NOT have to use bag check. One tent will be for general DCRRC use, the other will be for the Reebok Official Training Programs, which we have directed and operated. So, take advantage of these areas for your pre and post-race needs. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED (INCLUDING ATHLETES) TO BRING SOME EXTRA GOODIES FOR THE RUNNERS! PLEASE HELP OUT YOUR FELLOW CLUB MEMBERS!
(e) Due to the large DCRRC entry, we have available several complimentary entries to the Marathon or Half-Marathon. Precedence will be given to those who won their age groups (or placed) in the recently-concluded Snowball Series, and those with substantial volunteer service to the Club. If you would like to run, and have not yet signed up, please contact the Club President, with a brief email explaining why you think you merit a complimentary entry. Thanks!
(f) Finally, two points: Frst, if you have not checked out the course map lately on the race website, please do so. The first half of the race was "turned around" a few weeks back, so that the "climb" is on 18th Street, up through Adams Morgan and onto Columbia Road. Second, if you are Sun Trust customer (or even if you are nor), take an opportunity to thank Sun Trust for stepping in to sponsor the race. Sun Trust has a lot of branches in the area -- if some of us stopped in to just say "thanks," I'm sure the word will work its way up the corporate chain.
2. DCRRC Annual Meeting & Banquet, March 30th:
(a) PLEASE SIGN-UP IN ADVANCE! See the link below for information on how to register on-line for the Club's annual banquet on March 30th at Maggiano's on Wisconsin Avenue in DC. The cost of registering goes up on March 24th. We need Club members to pre-register so that we can give the restaurant an accurate count. We do not want to pay for food we do not eat, nor do we want there to be not enough food.
(b) NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE: The Nominations Committee has proposed the following slate of officers and directors for election
President: Edward Grant
VP Races: Joe Racine
VP Operations: Kerry O'Brien
*VP Training: Peter Lamberton
Treasurer: George Getek

MD Rep: Aaron Cheskis
VA Rep: Ian Clements

"Ex-Officio" Members

*This is a new VP position that the Board proposes we create through an amendment to the by-laws. The proposed amendment will be posted here prior to the meeting, and will be voted on at the Annual Meeting.

3. RRCA Coaching Certification: RRCA, in order to meet increasing demand, will likely schedule another 2008 Coaching Certification Clinic in the DC area. There is a strong possibility this will be on the weekend of the Marine Corps Marathon (Friday and Saturday).
I have the following people on my list of those interested in attending: Peter Lamberton, Ben Richter, Andrew Kent, Kenny Ames, Kristen Blanchat, Matt Pyle, Sasha Sibert, Jeannie Salo, Linda Haines, Renee Clement, Alexandra Tagle, John Braden, Lynn Addington, and Kristen Dahling.
If you are NOT on this list, please contact me immediately for instructions on how to make sure that you are notified when registration for the clinic opens. I expect this sitting to "sell out" in as little as 24 hours. The Club cannot register you in advance, or handle your registration for you (although we will reimburse you the cost of registration, in return for a commitment to coach in Club programs in the future.)
Depending on how this goes, we will consider plans to have a one-day seminar in June to prepare coaches for the Marathon and 10-mile training programs, and to make certain that our coaches are certified as to CPR adn first aid.
Enjoy this perfect-time-of-year to run!
