Chris Kupczyk

Q: What is your favorite running trail?
A: In town--Custis. Close to home, and a good hill workout to boot.
Out of town--Des Plaines River Trail, Lake County, IL (northern Chicago suburbs). Thirty miles of crushed gravel through a nature preserve.

Q: What is your favorite SLR trail (if different from favorite running trail)?
A: Ross Drive.

Q: What SLR trail should Max and other course planners never have charted and exposed unsuspecting runners to?
A: Last May we went up the Capital Crescent and through some neighborhoods off Mass. Ave. It poured most of the way, so my directions disintegrated and I ran around aimlessly until I found some other lost SLR folks. But I guess I can't blame Becky for the rain. ;)

Q: What's on your race schedule this year?
A: Cherry Blossom, Spring and Fall LMI (my employer) 3-Milers, Army 10-Miler, and a fall marathon (location TBD).

Q: What's your favorite marathon?
A: Philadelphia marathon (the only one I've done).

Q: What would you say was your most memorable race?
A: Philadelphia marathon.

Q: My Run from Hell, or the Run I Should Never Have Embarked Upon, is....?
A: Lunchtime runs on a Code Red day.

Q: What's your best marathon time?
A: 3:58:23.

Q: What is your average mile pace during SLR runs?
A: Varies between 8:00 and 8:45.

Q: What's the best running shoe you've ever worn?
A: Asics 2080.

Q: What do you currently run in?
A: Asics 2080 and New Balance 763.

Q: How many pairs of running shoes do you use per year?
A: Four to five.

Q: What is the funniest thing about your current job? (No need to divulge any classified information :))
A: Having to ask people what they just said after they utter an entire sentence comprised of nothing but military acronyms.

Q: What's the worst job you have ever had?
A: SLR refreshments manager. (Just kidding!!) Hmm...fry cook at Wendy's?

Q: Name your favorite pizza.
A: Deep dish pepperoni and mushroom.

Q: What is the most recent book you've read?
A:"The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power," by Daniel Yergin

Q: Who is/are your favorite Nobel prize winner(s)?
A: Lech Walesa. Gotta go with a fellow Pole.

Q: If you were a car, which car would you be?
A: Lotus Seven.

Q:Caribbean Cruise or Appalachian Trail Hiking? Why?
A: Trail hike. Packaged tours are fine, but they don't really appeal to me. (A Caribbean fishing trip on a sailboat would be another matter, though.)

Q: Preferred Starbucks espresso drink?
A: I prefer the free coffee at the office.

Q:Top three movies ever seen?
A: Impossible to narrow it down to three, but:

1. Vertigo

2. L.A. Confidential

3. The Right Stuff

Q: What's your preferred (or least repulsive) Gatorade flavor?
A: Orange.
