CB Blanckmeister

carolyn blanckmeisterWhen did you begin running and why?

I ran but became serious in graduate school. I was a student at Cornell in NYC and ran my first marathon in NYC in 1980 (I completed 27 more in the next 18 years).

How did you find out about DCRRC and when did you join?

I moved to DC in July 2019 and joined after trying one race on the canal with the group the same month.

What are you training for right now?

I am not training for anything but run 6-7 days a week-more like 5-6 miles routinely and longer on the weekend.

What is the toughest run or race you've ever participated in?

Probably the toughest was a half marathon in the Black Forest that was through rough forest paths and mostly uphill.

What is the most important lesson running has taught you?

You can do anything you really set your mind to.

What is your favorite route in the area?

Probably anywhere along the canal.

What race day traditions do you have?

Always coffee before any race preferably a nonfat latte.

What is your favorite post-race meal?

A large soft pretzel with mustard.

What is your proudest running moment?

Second place for my age group in the Berlin marathon 1982.

What is your favorite running book?

Don’t really have one but for movies-Chariots of Fire is my favorite classic film.

What is your life like outside of running?

Spending as much time outdoors enjoying nature and staying fit as possible.
