>When did you begin running and why?
I started running a dozen years ago, after I had my kids. I wanted to get back into shape and a friend told me about the Couch-to-5k running program. I became hooked from there.
>How did you find out about DCRRC and when did you join?
I think I joined DCRRC about ten years ago. I was looking into marathon training programs and found out about DCRRC's club races and training programs through its website. I've run most of the club races several times now and sometimes drag my spouse and/or kids along.
>What are you training for right now?
A couple of spring trail races, the Little Patuxent half marathon and Sheetz-to-Sheetz 14 mile run.
>What is the toughest run or race in which you have participated?
Trail racing is very challenging for me. The longest distance I've run on trails is a 25k at PWFP and I was really spent by the end. But the camaraderie and robust aid stations keep me coming back to the trails.
>What is the most important lesson running has taught you?
It's taught me a lot about perseverance and believing in myself.
>What is your favorite route in the area?
There's a stretch of the CCT that runs by my house in Springfield that I really enjoy. It follows along the Pohick Creek, is very scenic, and has some fun stream crossings.
>What is your favorite post-race meal?
Something close by and quick like Chipotle or 5 guys with a celebratory beer to wash it down at home.
>What is your proudest running moment?
Finishing my first marathon at MCM. It was a lot of training in swampy summer weather and a big leap of faith to go from a half marathon to 26.2.
>What is your favorite running book and/or movie?
Forrest Gump (... I just felt like running).
>What is your life like outside of running?
I have two teenagers and spend a lot of time driving them around and supporting their various activities. I've also worked as a federal government attorney for over 20 years, and I volunteer with an animal rescue group. I sometimes take in foster dogs, which can be challenging but very rewarding.
