Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route is Ross Drive, and we have THREE, count them THREE midway beverage volunteers this week! Now that's more like it, everyone! Please thank all our beverage volunteers, including Grace, Nikki, and Paul at the midpoint and Jim for bringing post-run beverages this month.
Jim is bringing the beverages for us tomorrow, even though he is taking off to race in Philadelphia right after dropping off our goods. This is where we need a hand-- if anyone would please pick up the leftovers after SLR, please let me know.
I'd do it myself, but I have to get out of there before you'll all be done running and get to work, and we are all great logicians who realize that if I took them upon my departure, that would negate Jim's efforts in supplying post-run beverages.
This also brings me to the next topic--
Marathon Training Program Singlets. I will be there with the singlets at 6:45. If you think they should be available after SLR, please let me know that you are volunteering to take over their distribution after SLR and send me an email so we can coordinate that hand-off.
It looks like we are set for having at least one person handle our post-run and midway beverages for the rest of the season, but with the sheer volume we deal with each week, it would not hurt to have an extra person or two helping out. Don't be shy if you want to lend a hand for a particular duty on a particular week, and be sure to thank those who have stepped up to help!
Thank you all and see you tomorrow!
Kristin
Hello again Saturday runners!
Midroute Beverages: No one has stepped up to do midroute beverages for tomorrow, so unless someone just shows up and does it, we will NOT have a midway stop. I apologize for any inconvenience with this, but everything the club does is volunteer-based, so if nobody volunteers for a thing, the thing won't get done. The weather should be cool and there are some fountains, but do be aware of this and plan accordingly-- if you want to be sure to have hydration along the way, please bring some with you from home (please refrain from using the post-run beverages for this; bring your own so there is the needed replenishment for even the last to finish their run).
Thanks to Grace Chan for offering to help next week! If anyone wants to help her out, that would be good. We're a big group so it can easily be a job for two (or three).
6:00 and 7:00 starts: We did have a last-minute announcement that a large group of runners will begin at 6am tomorrow. So there are 6 and 7 am start groups tomorrow.
Marathon Training Program Participants' Singlets will be available from me between 6:45 and 7, and from Eleanor Evans when she returns from her loooong run (her estimated time of return is around 9:30 or 10, but really it's whenever she gets back). I'll have 'em next week at 6:45 if you can't pick them up this week.
