August 29 SLR - Mall and Rock Creek

Hello Saturday runners!

This week's route is new, yet familiar to most of us and pretty straightforward.  Because it is new, there is no sheet in our "SLR Routes" section-- I'll have a few copies but I've posted it below as well.  Basically, the route takes us across Memorial and down the Mall, then up the water into Rock Creek Park, then back across Key.

Thanks to Kristen Jaremback and Dick Conway for providing our midpoint and post-run beverages!

See you tomorrow!

Kristin

Mall to Rock Creek ~17+2/3 mi.

Begin at Iwo Jima, cross Memorial Bridge

Bear Left, run past Lincoln Memorial, Reflecting Pool, WWII Monument, Washington Monument, Mall.

At 3rd Street, take a right and run to other side of Mall.  Run back to Lincoln Memorial.

Take a right to cross in front of Lincoln Memorial, then run toward Memorial Bridge.

Just before bridge, take a right and run along water past Kennedy Center, Watergate.

Bear right (away from water) at Thompson’s Boat House to Rock Creek Pkwy

Continue north up Rock Creek Pkwy/Beach Dr until Broad Branch (where Beach Drive closed to traffic).  There are parking lots and picnic areas just before this turnaround; our midpoint stop is here (there is also water in the zoo, near the Lincoln Memorial, and on 34th and M in Georgetown).

Retrace steps south on Rock Creek Parkway.  Just past C&O Canal, take a right onto Water Street.

Take a right on 34th street, run up stairs to Key Bridge.

Cross Key Bridge, stay on Lynn Street through Rosslyn, return to Iwo Jima.
