Hi Runners,
This week’s run is the 18 mile National Arboretum route. The azaleas are in full bloom, so now is a great time to visit them! The cue sheet and GPS files are here.
If 18 miles is too far for you this weekend, but you still want to see the azaleas, there’s also a few options to shorten the route and still see the flowers:
1. ~15 Miles: Follow the route as written, but when you get to the Arboretum make a beeline for the azaleas (on the hill to your right at the entrance, across from the columns), run (or walk!) through the azaleas, and come back the same as the route.
2. ~10 Miles: Follow the route to the arboretum, run through the azaleas, then get on the metro at Capitol South station (located south of the Capitol on C Street). Take the Orange/Blue/Silver line towards Ashburn/Vienna/Franconia Springfield/Huntingtown to Rosslyn, it’s only $2 on weekends!
3. ~12 Miles: Exactly the same as above, but get on the metro at Smithsonian on the Mall instead of Capitol South.
The next club race is DCRRC Women's Distance Festival 5K and Run After the Women 5K.
Now is a good time to start reading the next book club book for June 25th. The book is "For the Glory" by Duncan Hamilton - The Untold and Inspiring Story of Eric Liddell, Hero of Chariots of Fire.
Happy running,
Megan
