Hello Saturday Long Runners!
The Route: Cue "I'm Still Standing"! This week we'll be doing an old classic: RFK (strava, gps, pdf). We'll head down the Mall and through Capitol Hill, then to the ever-degrading RFK Stadium, named for Robert Kennedy (no, not that one), before heading back to the park at North Meade Street. Be sure to wave goodbye since it'll finally be gone soon :(
Want Something Shorter? This route is an out and back, which makes it pretty easy to cut off any amount of mileage. Just turn around halfway from where you'd like to end the run. Turning around at the top of Capitol Hill will get you 9 miles and Lincoln Park will get you 11 if you want some landmarks! If, like me, you're a hop-the-Metro person, you'll be in close proximity to Orange/Blue/Silver almost the entire way.
Need a Longer Route? When you're in front of the stadium, turn right, carefully cross Independence Avenue, and hop on the sidewalk heading east, which will shortly turn into a paved trail that brings you to the Anacostia Riverwalk. The Congressional Cemetery is also an option.
Thirsty? Well, our old nemesis the National Park Service are not anywhere close to turning any of the fountains back on yet, so this is definitely a carry-your-own-water day.
Need a Bathroom? The "they're there" bathrooms outside the Washington Monument and the temporary ones outside the Lincoln Memorial are always a safe bet.
Happy Running!
