DCRRC continued an important area running tradition by holding one of the oldest marathons in the country in brisk conditions. The overall winner Luke Merkel, who also ran the first leg of the marathon relay. For the first 22 miles, Michael Rodgers (the 1999 winner) lead the pack by a decisive margin. However, exposure to the cold temperatures caused him to withdraw from the race, leaving Merkel in the lead. First woman was Patricia Zerfas, 44 from Kensington, MD (3:30:22). Top masters were Albino Castro (3:16:32) and Pat Wilkerson (3:36:44).
