Age Handicapped Four Mile Run

Jason Page, 65, of Hamilton, VA, won DCRRC's Age-Handicapped Four-Mile Run on July 4 at Carderock, Md. The race featured a handicapped starting system by which runners started at one of about 20 different times based on their 5-year age group. The oldest runner, 79-year-old Lee Glassco, enjoyed a nearly 19-minute head start over men in their 20s. Page, who finished second last year, moved into a new age group this year, allowing him to start about 90 seconds earlier than in 2009. Aging up helped Page unseat last year's champion, John Tuttle, 51. Tuttle, who ran the marathon at the 1984 Olympics, finished second on July 4, 38 seconds behind Page. Rounding out the top 5 were Jim Noone, 66; Betty Blank, 57; and Bruce Halpin, 53.
