Saturday, May 7, 2016 Sandy Spring Friends School • 16923 Norwood Road, Sandy Spring, MD 20860 About This Race The Nanty Narking Nearly 9K is a beautiful trail run and 2 Mile Fun Stroll that will highlight many historic sites in the Sandy Spring community. Nanty Narking (a Victorian expression meaning “Great Fun“) is a rustic and rootsy trail run back in time past historic Montgomery County, MD sites like the 19th century Friends Meeting House, Woodlawn Manor, the original Sandy Spring, and spots on the Underground Railroad Experience Trail. Runners of all ages and abilities can experience the scenic, off-the-beaten path beauty of Sandy Spring, Maryland. Governor Thomas Holliday Hicks (1798–1865) will fire the starting pistol and other costumed interpreters will be visible along the trail. UnderArmour Tech Shirts for all pre-registered runners and walkers. Post-race refreshments will be served. Event details and schedule The NNN9K will start at 8:00 A.M. The consists primarily of wooded paths, single-track fields and gravel access roads. It is a loop course that begins at the historic Ashton Meeting House on the grounds of the Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS), meanders through wooded trails of the Underground Railroad Experience Trail, circles the grounds of Woodlawn Manor, and passes the Sandy Spring, the 19th century home Harewood, and the historic Friends Meeting House and cemetery before returning to SSFS. This is a trail run so tread lightly and expect unpredictable footing! Race Packet Pickup is at the Sandy Spring Friends School Athletic Center beginning at 7:00AM on race day. Ample free parking is available in lots adjacent to the Sandy Spring Friends School Athletic Center. The 2 Mile Fun Stroll will begin at 9 am.
