Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.
To receive weekly SLR updates via email, please log in and check your email subscriptions.

This Saturday, May 5th, we will be running the DC Sightseer route. The listed route mileage is 13 miles – with plenty of other options as well. Check out the cue sheet and map-my-run map. We will still be meeting at the park across from Iwo Jima at 1300 Arlington Blvd., as resolutions to the Iwo Jima conflict have been slow going.
As of now we do not have anyone signed up for post run drink duty for May, so if you haven't done drinks before and are an SLR regular please consider helping out. If no one volunteers we won't have yummy Gatorade for after our run. Its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses, email SLR@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Directions: Take Key Bridge, then turn right down M St. through Georgetown, bear right on Pennsylvania Ave. On the way, curl around back of the White House next to Lafeyette Park, right on 15th street, then get back on PA Ave. Pass Freedom Plaza. Run towards the Capitol. Just before reaching Capitol, go diagonally left up Louisiana Ave. to Union Station. Turn right in front of Union Station then right on First St. NE to go by the back side of the Capitol in front of the Supreme Court. Turn right on Independence Ave and get on the National Mall. At the Lincoln Memorial, turn left along Ohio Drive and the Potomac River. After 3/4 mile, just before the little Inlet Bridge, do not cross the little Inlet Bridge, but instead turn left and run clockwise around the Tidal Basin. At the end of the Tidal Basin loop, pass the Jefferson Memorial on your right, cross 14th St. Bridge, take Mt. Vernon Trail North along the river then left on Memorial Bridge, finish at Iwo Jima. Bathrooms with water are in the little house by Washington Monument, under Lincoln Memorial, and under Jefferson Memorial.
Approx. Mileage Options
9: After Lincoln Memorial, come directly back via Memorial Bridge
12: Do route as written but skip the loop around the Tidal Basin, so take the little Inlet bridge on Ohio drive, then take stairs up to cross 14th street bridge and take Mt. Vernon trail North, cross Memorial bridge
13.5: Do as written in cue sheet, coming back via Memorial Bridge
+1.5: Stay on Mt. Vernon Trail North, run out on Roosevelt Island to the Statue of Teddy, and come back via Rosslyn to add 1.5 miles (makes it 15 total)
+3: Add a loop around Hains Point to add 3 miles before coming back via 14th street bridge
This is a great route for anyone new to the area, visitors, or just those trying to get reacquainted with the sights, sounds, and smells of DC. Enjoy!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, April 28th, we will be running the Normanstone Hill Klingle Loop. The base route is 13 miles, or you can cut some off to make it more like 11 miles. Shorter than that and you’ll probably just need to make it an out-and-back.
Please thank Rick DeSaussure for more excellent post-run beverage work. The weather is starting to heat up and we need more drink volunteers. As of now we do not have anyone signed up for May (which starts next week). We try to have people do 1 month at a time for logistics purposes, its not a lot of work and DCRRC reimburses your expenses. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Directions: follow prompts in cue sheet online, check map too.
11 Mile Option: Cuts off big top of loop by taking Cleveland Ave NW back early.
After mile 6.0, after you turn right on 34th Street, run a few blocks and then take a right on Cleveland Ave NW. At about 6.75 miles veer left, staying on Cleveland Ave, street becomes Calvert St. NW.
Soon take a right on Shoreham Drive NW down to re-join Rock Creek Trail going south, right on trail to head back to Memorial Bridge, return to Iwo Jima area from there.
Looks like more great running weather!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, April 21st, we will be running the Glover Archbold Panda route. The base route is 13 miles, or you can cut some off to make it more like 10 miles. Shorter than that and you’ll probably just need to make it an out-and-back. Please be advised we are once again meeting in the park across the street from Iwo Jima at 1300 Arlington Blvd.
Congrats to all of our club members who made it through an exceptionally hot Boston Marathon last week! Way to tough it out! Also, we could still use volunteers for the DC Roadrunner beverage stop at the GW Parkway race tomorrow. Please RSVP to Brian Danza at Brian@dcroadrunners.org.
Please thank Rick DeSaussure for more excellent post-run beverage work. The weather is starting to heat up and we need more drink volunteers – May is starting to creep up and we still don’t have anyone signed up for drinks. Email slr@dcroadrunners.org if you can help out.
Directions: follow prompts in cue sheet online, check map too.
To shorten: At mile 4.0, take a right on Massachusetts Ave. Take Mass Ave all the way down to Sheridan Circle, bear right on the circle, take right on 23rd St NW to exit, take slight right onto Q st, and then immediately left back onto 23rd St. Take this up to P St, right on P St NW. Soon you will pass over the Rock Creek Park trail, then take a left to rejoin Rock Creek Park trail. Take back to Memorial bridge, end at Iwo Jima. Makes it like a 9.5 mile run. Or make it an out and back on the way out for less than that.
To lengthen: after the Panda portion you can take Mass Ave Northwest and rejoin the original route around mile 4.0. Should add like 4.5 miles. More loops means more Pandas!!
