Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hi Runners,
It was so good to see some of you this past weekend! If you have any feedback, I am all ears. Liz is the post run drink volunteer this weekend (thank you Liz!). If you are interested in volunteering in the next few weeks, please reach out to me – I ask that you are able to volunteer for at least 2 weeks in a row due to bin logistics. Volunteering will count towards the bunion derby.
The route this weekend is the 13 mile MacArthur Spring Valley Loop. The cue sheet and GPS links are here.
We will have some safety protocols in place for June 5 and June 12 (please see below). If you do not feel comfortable joining us for now, I understand and look forward to seeing you when you are comfortable. The Hugh Jascourt 4 miler race is on June 20th and the club happy hour is at Ireland’s Four Courts on June 24th!

Out of caution, we will have administrative controls in place. If you are not comfortable attending in person at this time, that is totally fine! We look forward to seeing you again when you are comfortable.
For liability purposes, we request you to be a Club member in good standing and sign the club waiver prior to coming to SLR. We encourage you to be fully vaccinated prior to coming to Saturday long runs and request that you adhere to all CDC guidelines. If your membership is not up to date, this is a good time to pay your membership dues. If you have any questions, please contact deborah@dcroadrunners.org.
Please wear a mask at the kickoff time and at the start of the run until the group spreads out. Be mindful of the community and anyone you pass and try to give others 6 feet of space if possible. When you finish your run, please space out. In order to minimize contact it will BYO map for now (I plan to use my phone) and water/Gatorade after the run will be in small individual bottles.
If you have experienced any of the following symptoms in the past 48 hours, we ask that you DO NOT attend SLR for the benefit of other club members:
- fever or chills
- cough
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- fatigue
- muscle or body aches
- headache
