Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hi All,
Happy Fourth of July weekend!
Due to health concerns, varying restrictions, and the holiday, I will not be organizing a run this weekend. I hope to very soon! In the meantime, if you want to follow the original plan, it is the Capital Crescent route. The cue sheet and GPS files are linked here. The great thing about this route is it is relatively shaded as you get further up the canal and you can turn around wherever. If you are following the Marathon training plan, I recommend turning around at mile 7.
In other news, Rich is organizing another virtual race (thanks Rich!). Show off your speed in another #dcrrc1milechallenge anytime between July 13 and 19! Facebook and website links.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Hope to see you soon!
Megan
Hi All,
I hope you are staying safe and healthy!
Due to health concerns and varying restrictions, I will not be organizing a run this weekend, however, if you want to follow the original plan, it is the RFK route. The cue sheet and GPS file are linked as well. The turn around point for this route is just before the RFK stadium, but you can always turn around sooner if you would like.
In other news, the DCRRC Hugh Jascourt Four Miler is this Sunday if you are interested! Please see link for more details.
Hope to see you soon!
Megan
Hi All,
I hope you and your families are all safe and healthy! I miss running with you and can't wait to resume as soon as it is safe to do so.
A DCRR Membership email went out yesterday to inform us that registration for the fall marathon and 10-miler / half marathon training programs are open! They will be starting virtually and moving to in person as guidelines permit - more details in the links above. If you or someone you know is interested, now is your chance to sign up!
Since SLR generally follows the training program and it isn't super hot yet, now is the time to start ramping up your mileage (if you haven't been putting in miles already)! The recommended distance this week is 10 miles, but please keep in mind your current fitness levels. You know yourself and your current weekly mileage best.
I will not be organizing a run this weekend, however, if you need inspiration or miss Rosslyn and want to do the original plan, it is an out and back on Mt Vernon Trail. The cue sheet and GPS file are linked as well. The turn around point for this route is just after the airport right around the train intersection with Four Mile Run, but you can always go shorter or further depending on how you feel.
Hope to see you soon!
Megan
