Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's long run is going to be out & back on the Rock Creek Park trail (downloads: cue sheet and GPS), for really any distance that you'd like. The club's winter/spring Marathon Training Program will begin meeting with us this week, and the first run on the training schedule is 10 miles, so that's our recommended distance this week. If you'd like to go either further or shorter however, it's easy to just turn around at whatever point is half of your total target distance. The turn-around point for 10 miles (5 miles out) is along the detour that goes around the tunnel that's just before the Zoo.
Thanks again to Michael Rohlf for post-run drinks over the past few weeks! We're going to need more volunteers to step up soon, with a post-run drink schedule that's wide open after the next 2 weeks. Please take a look at your calendar and let me know what you can do!
Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. For more details on how volunteering works, please see the SLR FAQ, or get in touch with me if your questions are not addressed there. SLR drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this perk, do your part to keep it going!
Nominations for 2017 club awards (presented at the Club Banquet in March 2018) will be accepted until January 7, 2018. You may submit multiple nominations, for the same or different awards. Self-nominations are allowed.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
If you're looking for a long run after recovering from a turkey trot and a thanksgiving feast, this Saturday morning we'll be going 12 miles on the RFK route! (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) For a shorter run you can simply turn around sooner, since this is an out & back route, or for more distance there are many ways to tack on extra. If you head south on 15th St and run a full lap of Hains Point before returning across Memorial Bridge, this is 16 miles total, or you can connect to Rock Creek, Mt. Vernon, Custis, or C&O Canal trails for any amount of extra out & back distance. I can't make it to the run this week, but you'll be in good hands with Coach Big Guy who will kick thinks off on Saturday morning.
Thank you Michael Rohlf for this week's post-run drinks! We're going to need more volunteers to step up soon, with a post-run drink schedule that's wide open after next week. Please take a look at your calendar and let me know what you can do!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Saturday's route, on November 18, is a little bit less than 11 miles to Fort Scott Hill (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). This is an out & back run, so for a shorter distance you can turn around sooner, or for a longer run you can continue further down the Mt. Vernon Trail after running up and down the hill. To make this route more of a loop, and about a mile shorter, you can also head back to the start by continuing on Fort Scott Dr. to a left on 23rd St, a right on Army-Navy Drive, and then a return past the Pentagon after going through the parking lot tunnel beneath I-395.
Thank you Michael Rohlf for this week's post-run drinks! We're going to need more volunteers to step up soon, with a post-run drink schedule that's wide open after only two weeks from Saturday. Please take a look at your calendar and let me know what you can do!

Club Announcements:
The Alexandria Turkey Trot 5 Miler is coming up next week on Thanksgiving Day. If you are in town, it's a great way to start off the holiday morning on a neighborhood course that's friendly to speedsters, strollers, turkey costumes, dogs, and everything in between! This race is one of our club's premier events of the year, and our single biggest source of revenue, so we would love to see you there either running or volunteering. Registration for both is at the link above.
Nominations for 2017 club awards (presented at the Club Banquet in March 2018) will be accepted until January 7, 2018. You may submit multiple nominations, for the same or different awards. Self-nominations are allowed.
Happy running,
