Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
On Saturday, November 11, our route will be Glover - Mass - Crescent (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) for 13 miles. To shorten this run, you can get 8 miles by going out & back on the Glover Archbold trail to Mass Ave, or 10 miles if you keep going past Mass Ave all the way to the end of the trail at Van Ness before turning around. To add mileage, you easily tack on out & back segments along either the Capital Crescent or C&O Towpath trails, or return to VA via other bridges past the Key Bridge. I can't make it to the run this week unfortunately, but Jonny will be there to kick things off. It's going to be COLD, in the mid-20s, for the first time this season on Saturday morning, so don't forget to bring your gloves, hats, and jackets!
Thank you Heather Johnston for this week's post-run drinks! We're going to need more volunteers to step up soon, with a post-run drink schedule that's wide open after only two weeks from Saturday. Please take a look at your calendar and let me know what you can do!
Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. For more details on how volunteering works, please see the SLR FAQ, or get in touch with me if your questions are not addressed there. SLR drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this perk, do your part to keep it going!
Club Announcements:
The Alexandria Turkey Trot 5 Miler is coming up quickly on Thanksgiving Day. If you are in town, it's a great way to start off the holiday morning on a neighborhood course that's friendly to speedsters, strollers, turkey costumes, dogs, and everything in between! This race is one of our club's premier events of the year, and our single biggest source of revenue, so we would love to see you there either running or volunteering. Registration for both is at the link above.
Nominations for 2017 club awards (presented at the Club Banquet in March 2018) will be accepted until January 7, 2018. You may submit multiple nominations, for the same or different awards. Self-nominations are allowed.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route, on Saturday November 4, will be 15 miles on the Mt Vernon - Hains Point T (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). For a shorter run, you can make it about 10 miles by only running either the Mt Vernon Trail portion (down to Four Mile Run), or just the Hains Point loop portion.
I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Kevin D'Amanda will get the run started for you on Saturday morning.
Thank you Heather Johnston for this week's post-run drinks! We have volunteers lined up for the next couple weeks, but will need more people to step up starting in the first week of December. Please take a look at your calendar and let me know what you can do!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route, on October 28, will be the 12 mile Bluemont L-Loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). For a shorter run, you can cut off 2 miles by skipping the short leg of the L and returning directly from the Custis Trail along Lynn St through Rosslyn, or you can cut off 3 miles by skipping the namesake Bluemont portion and going directly from Fairfax Drive to the Custis Trail by following the 66 on-ramp. W&OD and Roosevelt Island trails are both a convenient way to add extra mileage if that's what you'd prefer. The forecast is looking like a perfect morning to run, with sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s, so come on out to join us!
Thanks this week go to Brie Jackson for post-run drinks! I've now posted a route schedule that will take us all the way to the Rock n Roll marathon in the spring, through our winter training program, so please let me know when you can help out. Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot.
