Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route is the 12 mile run around RFK stadium. It is more or less an out and back with a straightline down the Mall. It will probably be rather warm again, so please thank your fantastic beverage volunteers, Eleanor Evans at the midpoint, and Ross Brodbeck for the post-run.
Also, I think that the route schedule for the summer is now corrected. If you disagree, please let me know what I did wrong this time, and I'll fix it.
AND-- a note on cups-- I guess we ran out of cups at the midpoint last week, even though we had way more cups than runners. Some may have gone to additional thirsty folks on the C&O, but it still never hurts to conserve. If you need a refill, go ahead and refill. The same cup! And sometimes those bottles you are carrying will do the job just fine, too. Thanks!!
Finally, now that the schedule is corrected, I expect to be deluged with beverage volunteers who were waiting for the schedule to be firmed up. Please don't disappoint me. Thanks so much for helping out!
Kristin
Hello Saturday runners!
Tomorrow we'll run the traditional First 7AM, First Marathon Training Out and Back on the C&O Canal. The suggested distance is 10 miles, but as always, you can do whatever total you like-- just remember to turn around when you're half done. There is no cue sheet. Trust me, you can figure it out without cues.
Eleanor Evans will be near Fletcher's with some midpoint refreshments for us, and Ross Brodbeck will cover or post-run refreshments. I know we'll be appreciating that very much in tomorrow's weather, so please thank them!
On another note, I learned it is best not to strategize after a long day of mind-numbing work-- please do not make any huge plans in reliance on the SLR schedule after mid-July. As it turns out, there is one more weekend in this year's training cycle between the first Sat in June and MCM than I thought. I'll be adding a run of around 15 miles in July, and subsequent routes will be moved back one week. I will work with any beverage volunteers to make necessary adjustments (Lynn!) and then fix our route chart. The training schedule distributed to Marathon Training Program participants already reflects corrected SLR's, but please stay tuned for further details. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.
Looking forward to a great fall marathon training season (whether we're actually fall marathoning or not), and I'll see you all tomorrow!
