Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
On Saturday, July 29, our long run route will be Battery Kemble Loops (downloads: cue sheet and gpx) for 16 miles. You can shorten it to 14 miles by going to the base of the park, and then without doing any loops re-tracing your steps back to the start. To add extra distance, the Capital Crescent Trail, where you'll aready be running, is an easy place to extend. It looks like we're going to have wet weather on Friday and Saturday, so if things are too mushy on the trail, another option instead of the regular loop is to keep going all the way up Chain Bridge Rd, take a right on Nebraska, and then loop back down to MacArthur on Foxhall Rd to Garfield and then 49th St.
Thank you Amy Bush for post-run drinks, and Ted Logothetti for mid-run drinks this week! Mid-run drinks will be located at the base of Battery Kemble Park, near the intersection of MacArthur Blvd NW and Chain Bridge Rd NW. We're now down to only three more slots that need to be filled for mid-run drinks this summer, so please get in touch with me if you're able to help out with any Saturday from 8/26 to 9/9!
Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. Post-run volunteers are typically scheduled for at least 2 consecutive weeks to cut down on handoffs of the bins, while mid-run drinks can be booked on a week by week basis. SLR drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this perk, do your part to keep it going! Volunteering is easy, doesn't take a lot of time, and all restocking expenses will be reimbursed by the club.
Happy running!

Hello Saturday Runners!
CHANGE OF START TIME for SLR/MTP to 6:00 AM: Due to the extreme weather conditions coming on Saturday morning, we will be starting both the SLR and MTP runs at 6:00 AM in order to keep our runners out of the direct sun as much as possible. As always, listen to your body. Take it easier than normal when hot and humid. You will still receive the same training effect. Additionally, watch out for your fellow runners. If anyone looks off their norm, ask them if they are okay and needless to say, help anyone that needs help. Pre-, mid- and post-run drinks will be cold and ready for you, but please consider also carrying your own fluids during the run.
This week's run is the 14 mile Marymount Chain Bridge loop (downloads: cue sheet and gpx). You can shorten this run to 12 miles by returning via the Key Bridge rather than Memorial Bridge, and to 10 miles by going straight on Military Rd to N Old Glebe in addition to a Key Bridge return. To extend the run to 16 miles, keep going down the river and return via the 14th St Bridge and Mt Vernon Trail.
Thank you Amy Bush for post-run drinks, and Becky Easley for mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks this week will be located at Madison Community Center on Old Glebe, about .25 miles past Walker Chapel. Our next need date for a mid-run drinks volunteer is August 5 (in two weeks), so please let me know if you can help on that date.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route will be the 13 mile DC Sightseer Loop (downloads: cue sheet and gpx). You can turn this into a 10 mile route by heading directly back across the bridge when you get to the Lincoln Memorial, rather than looping down to the Tidal Basin and 14th St. Bridge. For extra distance, a full loop of Hains Point will add about an extra 3.5 miles. This heat wave is still with us, so please be sure to carry your own fluids, in addition to our mid-run drinks, though there will also be water fountains along the route on the Mall and at the Jefferson Memorial.
Thank you Christie Wetzel and Rodrigo Vellon for post-run drinks, and Kerry O'Brien for mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located on Ohio Drive, just past the John Ericsson Memorial (near the intersection with Independence, below the Lincoln Memorial). We need a mid-run drink volunteer for next week, so please get in touch with me if you're able to help out.
