Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week our route will be the Bluemont L Loop (map here), for 12 miles. You can shorten this route to about 10 miles by returning directly to the start through Rosslyn, rather than continuing on to the short leg of the L after reaching Lynn St. To further shorten the loop to about 8 miles, follow the path directly to the Custis Trail from Wilson Blvd after crossing Glebe Rd, rather than continuing down the Bluemont Trail. For extra distance, you can add on at either the W&OD or Mt. Vernon trails.
Please be aware that there will be some road closures on Saturday morning in Arlington due to the Great Chocolate Race 5 miler. This shouldn't impact the route for our run, but if you drive to or from our meeting point it's something to keep in mind. For details, take a look at this traffic alert.
Thank you Ted Logothetti for our post-run drinks both this week and last week! We're covered for the next 2 weeks, but there are still a lot of openings coming up where we need coverage. Volunteer needs to go with our route schedule are always kept up-to-date on our web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. Post-run drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this SLR perk, please do your part to keep it going! Volunteering is easy, doesn't take a lot of time, and all restocking expenses will be reimbursed by the club.
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope you all had fun with your turkey trot races! To get out for some more mileage this weekend, we will be running the 11 mile Fort Scott Hill route (additional map here). This route is an out & back, so for a shorter distance you can turn around sooner, or for a longer run you can continue further down the Mt. Vernon Trail after running up and down the hill. The weather forecast is looking like we'll have a great fall morning in store, so I hope to see you there!
Don't forget that our Snowball Series of winter races (with free entry for club members!) will soon be getting underway. The first race of the series, the Gar Williams Half Marathon, is unfortunately already sold out, but there are plenty of other options between 8K and 20K over the next few months.
We now need a volunteer to start handling post-run drinks, to cover the gap over the next few weeks. With no volunteer, we will not have post-run drinks this week, and they will not resume until more volunteers start signing up. I've now posted a complete schedule of our runs through both Rock n Roll DC and Boston marathons.
Mike
