Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Saturday, August 8, we will be running the Marymount - Chain Bridge route (additional map here). This route gives a few easy options for distance, with the as-written route on the map and cue sheet at 14 miles. For 16.5 miles, return to Iwo Jima via the 14th St Bridge and Mt Vernon Trail. If you'd like to make it a 12 mile run, return via the Key Bridge rather than Memorial Bridge. If you would like to shorten the route to 10 miles, in addition to returning via the Key Bridge, do not turn left into Taylor Park, but continue straight on Military Rd until you reach Old Glebe Rd where a right turn picks up the route.
Thank you Angela Katson for covering the past month's post-run beverages! Thanks also to Mike Pryce-Jones for our mid-run beverages this week. We are now in need of post-run beverage volunteers starting next week, August 15. There are also plenty of mid-run slots to be filled before the MCM training cycle is over, so take a look at our up to date needs posted on the SLR page and let me know what fits your schedule. Please email me any dates you can cover mid-run drinks, or at least 2 consecutive weeks (preferably 4 weeks) for post-run drinks - the club will reimburse all expenses. This is an easy way to support your fellow runners, and the club will reimburse all expenses.
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
The route for Saturday August 1 will be out and back on the Rock Creek Park trail (additional map here). The planned distance is 16 miles, but you can easily run as short or as long as you'd like on this route by simply turning around whenever you get to half of your desired distance. To get 16 miles, the turnaround point is near the intersection of Broad Branch Rd and Beach Dr. Turn around earlier at the Zoo for 10 miles, or stay on Beach Dr for 20+ miles. I will be out of town this weekend, but Andrew Simpson will start the run for you on Saturday morning.
Thanks this week go to Angela Katson for post-run beverages, and to Paul Westcott for mid-run drinks - you'll find Paul set up at Pierce Mill. We will be in need of both mid-run and post-run drinks within the next few weeks, so please take a look at up to date needs posted on the SLR page and let me know what fits your schedule. Please email me any dates you can cover mid-run drinks, or at least 2 consecutive weeks (preferably 4 weeks) for post-run drinks - the club will reimburse all expenses. If you enjoy the beverages provided for our runs, then do your part and volunteer!
Happy running!

Hello Saturday Runners!
Our route on Saturday July 25 will be Cathedral-Clintons for 13 miles (additional map here). If you'd like to add any distance, you can do an out and back on the Mall when you reach the Lincoln Memorial on your way back, which will get you up to 18 miles total if you go all the way to the Capitol. For a shorter run, I'd suggest doing an out and back on the Rock Creek trail.
Thank you Angela Katson for providing post-run beverages! We do not currently have a mid-run beverage volunteer for this week or next week, July 25 and August 1, so please get in touch with me if you'd like to supply drinks for the group on either of those dates. Wihout volunteers to give us a pit-stop, you will need to rely on either water fountains or carrying your own liquids.
There are plenty of other volunteer opportunities this summer for both mid-run and post-run drinks, with up to date needs posted on the SLR page. Please email me any dates you can cover mid-run drinks, or at least 2 consecutive weeks (preferably 4 weeks) for post-run drinks - the club will reimburse all expenses. If you enjoy the beverages provided for our runs, please do your part and volunteer!
Happy running!
Mike
