Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
To keep Water Route in sync with the latest cherry blossom peak boom forecast, I'm swapping our scheduled routes for the next two weeks, meaning that this weekend on March 31 we'll be running Piney Branch (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) for 12 miles. You can shorten this route to about 9 miles by turning left off of 16th St onto Columbia Rd, and returning to Rock Creek via Calvert St and Shoreham Dr. Alternately, if you'd rather go longer, you can make this 16 miles by continuing on 16th St all the way up to Joyce Rd and going down Ross Dr. This Saturday is looking like a great day for a long run, with sunny skies and temperatures in the low to mid 40s!
Thank you Mary Ellen Seale for post-run drinks over the past month! We will need more volunteers for the second half of April and beyond, so please get in touch with me if you can help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For more info on how volunteering works, please first see the SLR FAQ, and after that send me an email if you'd like any additional details.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
Now that we're three weeks away from the Boston Marathon, this Saturday's long run on March 24 will be the longest of the season! It's 23 miles to go all the way around the Big Loop (With Detour) (downloads: cue sheet and GPS), and it's a great route if you're up for the distance. If you'd like a shorter run, you can start out with the group and then turn around at any point on the Capital Crescent trail to make it an out & back instead. There shouldn't be much, if any, snow left from yesterday by the weekend, but temperatures are forecast below freezing on Saturday morning so do watch out for possible small spots of black ice that may remain. I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Andrew Simpson will be there to get the run started.
Thank you Mary Ellen Seale for post-run drinks this week! The entire spring season SLR lineup is now posted, and we are in need of a lot more volunteers for beverages, so please get in touch with me if you can help. Hello Saturday Runners!
Congrats to everyone who ran the Rock n Roll Marathon or other races last weekend, there were a bunch of fantastic performances there from DCRRC runners! For your St. Patrick's Day run on this Saturday morning the 17th, we're going to be doing the 14 mile MBT Catholic loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). Note that this is a last-minute route change from what I had previously posted on the website, due to a Saturday morning 5K/10K race on Hains Point that would have put us in the middle of a few hundred people. If you'd like to run shorter than 14 miles along the MBT Catholic route, I'd recommend just making it an out & back, and turning around when you reach the half-way point of your target run. Hopefully the rain in Saturday's forecast will stay in the afternoon, and I'll see you at SLR!
