Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Our route this week for Saturday, August 31, will be 13 miles long to the loop of Normanstone Klingle (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). If your training schedule calls for a longer run this week, you can extend it by adding a second 3.5 mile loop of Normanstone-Klingle, or continue a little further up Rock Creek after the loop before turning around to head back. For less than 13 miles, I'd suggest simply running out & back on Rock Creek. Jonny and I are both out of town this week actually, but Rich will be introducing the route for me, after Big Guy and Jill cover the coaching part of things beforehand.
Thanks this week to Jill Brasky for post-run drinks, and Katherine & Madelyn Zeller for mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located at about 6.5 miles, at the bottom of the Klingle Valley Trail, after you've run down the big hill and are entering Rock Creek Park near Porter St. We're now actually completely covered for drinks volunteers up through 10/12, so thank you to everyone who has gotten in touch with me! If you can help with post-run drinks on 10/19 and beyond, please feel free to send me an email to pre-claim your slot before I post an extended schedule. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Reminder - if you have not recently renewed your club membership, it expires on Saturday (Aug 31)! To check your current status or renew if necessary, log in to the club website and go to the My Membership page.
Later this weekend on Sunday, September 1, we'll be holding our big end-of-summer, back-to-school race! The Larry Noel 15K Race and 3K Fun Run will be run in Greenbelt, featuring great courses and a great T-shirt. Click here for complete information and online registration.
In other news, we have a new club apparel store, which is now up and running! For members who are on DCRRC race teams, you will still be provided with a free navy blue singlet as in the past, but you can now order a number of other additional items if you'd like.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route for August 24 is 18 miles long, with almost all of it following the banks of DC's rivers, on the Anacostia Riverwalk Loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). This route is a brand new one in the SLR rotation! So, be sure to take a look at the map, grab a cue sheet from me on Saturday morning, and/or pre-load the GPX file into your watch ("course navigation" for those of you using Garmin). If you'd like to run less than 18 miles, you can cut about 3/4 mile by skipping the loop of Heritage Island, and cut another mile beyond that (for 16.5 ish) by crossing the river earlier at E Capitol St. Crossing earlier still at Pennsylvania Ave would make it about 13.5 miles. We should have some relief this weekend from the recent brutal heat, and a beautiful day for a long run with sunny skies, dew point in the 50s all day, and morning temperature in the low 60s!
Thanks this week to Jill Brasky for post-run drinks, and Michael Rohlf for mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located at about 9.5 miles, trailside at a gazebo just south of Benning Rd after you cross over to the eastern side of the Riverwalk Trail.
Also this Saturday, later in the evening after SLR, we'll be having our annual club picnic, including cross-country 3-miler and kid's race! This year's event will be at a new location from recent picnics, at Lake Accotink in Springfield, with activities starting at 5:30 pm. Please register here if you plan to run, volunteer, or just attend (even if you're not running, for more accurate food estimates).
The following weekend on Sunday, September 1, we'll be holding our big end-of-summer, back-to-school race! The Larry Noel 15K Race and 3K Fun Run will be run in Greenbelt, featuring great courses and a great T-shirt. Click here for complete information and online registration.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Our route this week is Long Bridge Park (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) for a 15 mile loop through Crystal City and Alexandria. If you'd like to run a similar but shorter loop, there are a few options to jump over to the Mt Vernon trail early. For about 8.5 miles, take a left off of Crystal Drive at the Crystal City Water Park trail, which brings you over to the Mt Vernon Trail at the airport. For 11 miles, take a right off of Potomac Ave at S Glebe Rd, cross to the far side of Rt 1 (Jefferson Davis Hwy), turn left, and then get on the Four Mile Run Trail back towards the bottom of the airport and Mt Vernon Trail. Note however that either of these changes will cause you to miss our volunteer staffed mid-run drink station.
Speaking of which, thank you Tan Zhang for mid-run drinks, and Emily and Kenneth Riley for post-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located at about 7.5 miles, on Slaters Lane just before Portner Rd. We're now actually completely covered for drinks volunteers up through 10/12, so thank you to everyone who has gotten in touch with me! If you can help with post-run drinks on 10/19 and beyond, The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot.
