Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
Our route this week is the 12 mile loop to Pentagon Army Navy (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). If you'd like to add more distance, you can easily do so on the Mt. Vernon Trail, Custis Trail, or Roosevelt Island. For a slightly shorter run, you can cut about 1 mile by returning directly from Memorial Bridge to Iwo Jima rather than via Rosslyln.
Thank you James Sledge for post-run drinks this week, and Jonny Pellish for filling in for me! We are now in need of post-run drink volunteers after this week, and post-run drinks will not resume until the next volunteer steps up, so please get in touch with me if you can help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Nominations for 2018 club awards (presented at the Club Banquet in March 2019) will be accepted until January 6, 2019. You may submit multiple nominations, for the same or different awards. Self-nominations are allowed. This is your annual chance to recognize the outstanding achievements of your SLR buddies!
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's run is out and back on Rock Creek Park trail (downloads: cue sheet and GPS), for a recommended distance of 10 miles. You can go either as long or as short as you like though, by turning around at half of whatever total distance you'd like. The winter/spring session of the club's Marathon Training Program is kicking off this Saturday as well, so you'll see a return of the trainees and coaches meeting a few minutes before 8:00.
Thank you James Sledge for post-run drinks this week, and Jonny Pellish for filling in for me! I've now posted the winter and spring schedule, to take us all the way through the training cycles for both Rock n Roll DC and Boston, and we will be in need of more volunteers for post-run drinks after next week, so please let me know when you can help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope you all had successful Turkey Trot runs yesterday! If you're looking for a long run tomorrow, this week's route will be 12 miles to RFK (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). It's essentially an out & back route, so if you'd like to shorten the run you can turn around at any point earlier than RFK, or to add extra distance head to any of Rock Creek Park Trail, Mt. Vernon Trail, or Hains Point. The weather might be tough tomorrow morning with cold rain, so be sure to grab your wet weather gear if it doesn't hold off until later on in the day.
Thank you James Sledge for post-run drinks this week, and Raj Bahnot for filling in for me! I've now posted the winter and spring schedule, to take us all the way through the training cycles for both Rock n Roll DC and Boston, and we will be in need of more volunteers for post-run drinks in a couple weeks, so please let me know when you can help. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
