Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route is the 13 mile DC Sightseer Loop (downloads: cue sheet and GPS). With the cherry blossoms fading fast (but not totally gone yet!) and the festival over, hopefully the crowds will be more manageable this week. If you'd like to shorten the run you can cut about a mile by skipping the Tidal Basin lap, or to cut another ~2.5 miles beyond that you can return directly over Memorial Bridge after reaching the Lincoln Memorial. I'm out of town again this weekend, but Andrew will be starting off the run for you on Saturday morning.
Thank you James Sledge for post-run drinks this week! We currently need more post-run volunteers starting after May 4, so please get in touch if you can help. I've now posted the schedule going out through mid-June, including a couple weeks after Memorial Day when we'll start back up with mid-run drinks, so those volunteer opportunities are available too. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's run, on Saturday April 6, is the 12 mile Water Route (directions: cue sheet and GPS). If you’re not running the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler on Sunday, this route will take you around the Tidal Basin and Hains Point for a look at the blossoms this year! To make this a 10 mile route you can skip the Tidal Basin Loop, or to add distance you can run extra along the Mall. I'm going to be out of town again this weekend, so Andrew will be leading the run for me tomorrow.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's run, on Saturday March 30, is Glover Archbold Pandas (directions: cue sheet and GPS) for 13 miles. If you'd like to go for less than 13 miles, an out & back run to the top of the Glover - Archbold trail at Van Ness is about 10 miles. Also, assuming that construction at the Glover - Archbold trail entrance is still ongoing, instead of the usual entry continue up Foxhall Rd NW, take a right on 44th St NW, and a right on P St NW which will end at an entry trail into Glover - Archbold Park. This Saturday should have some nice running weather, with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s! I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Franco will get things going for you at 8:00 on Saturday morning.
Thank you Ryan Moore for post-run drinks this week! We currently need a volunteer starting next week to cover April 6 and April 13, so please let me know ASAP if you can help with these dates. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.
Happy running,
Mike
