Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Hello Saturday Runners!
This week's route is Glover-Mass-Crescent (additional map here) for 12.75 miles. With the practically non-stop rain we've been getting lately, the trail will probably be on the messy side, however we've at least got a (forecasted) break in the rain from Friday afternoon until mid-day Saturday, so hopefully it won't be too bad. If you'd rather stick to pavement, you can do a similar route by taking Foxhall to Nebraska to Mass rather than hopping on the Glover-Archbold trail. Out & back on the Capital Crescent trail is also an option, and can be as long or short as you like.
Thank you Derek Moore for post-run beverages this week! We will need more post-run volunteers starting after next week, as well as mid-run volunteers starting soon at the beginning of June, so please help out however you can.
Up-to-date future volunteer needs and a route schedule are always posted on our web page, and you can email me to schedule your slot. For mid-run beverages, any week you're able to volunteer is appreciated, but for post-run beverages it's best if you can cover two (or more!) consecutive weeks at a time, to cut down on hand-offs of the bins. If you enjoy or benefit from the entirely volunteer-supported beverages at our runs, please do your part - it's easy, and you'll be reimbursed for all expenses.
Happy running!
Mike
Hello Saturday Runners!
This Saturday, May 7, we'll be doing something a little bit different, but I think it should be a fun route from our archives that we haven't run recently! The Vienna Metro (additional map here) route is 13.5 miles one way point-to-point, with a ride on the Metro's orange line to return back to our meeting point. Be sure to carry your SmarTrip card, loaded with at least $3.60 for the 22 minute ride from Vienna to Rosslyn! For a shorter run, you can make it just under 11 miles by continuing straight on Gallows Rd to the Dunn Loring Metro station. Alternately, if you'd rather not ride the Metro, or would like to run any other distance (longer or shorter), you can turn around at any point on the Custis or W&OD trails to make this a typical out & back route.
Thank you Rochelle Basil for post-run beverages over the last few weeks! We're going to need more post-run volunteers starting in late May, as well as mid-run volunteers starting in June, so please start thinking ahead and let me know how you'll be able to help. Up-to-date future volunteer needs and a route schedule are always posted on our web page, and you can email me to schedule your slot. Hello Saturday Runners!
This week we will be running the Upton Hill (additional map here) route, for an out & back of about 12 miles. For a shorter run, you can turn around at any point earlier (though you'll miss the fun of the big hill at the turnaround!) to get your target distance. If you're looking for anything beyond 12 miles, we'll be on the Custis Trail, which you can use to connect to the W&OD Trail and go as long as you like.
Thanks this week go to Rochelle Basil for post-run beverages! We're going to need more post-run volunteers after next week, as well as mid-run volunteers starting in June, so please start thinking ahead and let me know how you'll be able to help.
