Welcome! This is the home of the world-famous (well, maybe locally well-known) SLR.
Our start time is at 8:00 AM until next summer! Every Saturday we meet at North Meade Street Park, a small park northwest of the USMC War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Rosslyn. The closest address for mapping purposes is 1300 Arlington Blvd, and street parking is available in the neighborhoods adjacent to N. Meade Street. Be mindful of parking signs, since Arlington County enforces them enthusiastically, and please do not park on Marine Memorial Circle (inside Iwo Jima), because this parking area is for memorial use only. At least one porta-john is available year-round near the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the memorial's water fountain is usually on during the summer.
We run rain or shine! In cases of extreme weather (snow, ice, thunderstorms, heat waves) we do occasionally either change our meeting time or cancel the run for safety, but the run will be held as planned unless otherwise posted via email/twitter/facebook and here on the SLR web page.
All are welcome! We're an informal group, and there are no requirements for speed, racing experience, or what distance means "long" for you, other than the suggested route that most of our group will be running each week. If you don't want to run the same distance or course as the main group, you can go out for half of your own target distance and re-trace your steps back to Iwo Jima. More specific route info and mileage options will be given in the email/post preceding each Saturday's run. SLR always features a run from our extensive Route Catalog, which gives us a wide range of options to keep things fresh for you each week. We have routes that are flat, hilly, looped, out & back, roads, sidewalks, trails, and more, reaching all around the local area of DC, VA, and MD!
For more details about Saturday Long Runs please read our Frequently Asked Questions to get a sense for what it's like to run with us, or send an email to Anna if you have any other questions that are not covered.

Happy Independence Day Runners!
This Sat, July 5th, we will be running the Battery Kemble route. The full route is 16 miles, but its easily shortened to less (see below) if you are taking it easy or just ran the 4th of July DCRRC Race.
Drinks are looking good for summer, though there are still a few Saturday mid-run drink needs. Please check the SLR webpage for dates of need and email SLR@dcroadrunners.org to help out!
Double thank you to Joe Buccimo for supplying our post-run drinks as well as our mid-run drink stop!
Like I said, the full route (with 2 loops around Battery Kemble Park) is 16 miles but for less, you can cut off a loop of Battery Kemble - each loop is 1.25 miles. For even less, do just 1 loop, then take a right onto the Capital Crescent trail upon exiting the wood to cut off about a mile - this gets your run down to about 13.5 miles.
Looks like great summer running weather, clear, and with temps in the low 70s. Have a great run!

Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, June 28th, we will be running the Long Bridge Park/ Crystal City route at around 15 miles.
We are still currently in need of mid-run drink volunteers for summer as well as post-run drinks for July. Its not a lot of work and the club reimburses your expenses. This is critical especially in the summer heat! Please check the SLR webpage for dates of need and email SLR@dcroadrunners.org to help out!
Thank you to Kevin Cunningham for our post-run drinks! We will also be having mid-run drinks provided by Joe Emerson to give everyone a chance to refuel.
The weather will be warm (probably low 70s) but really not too hot for summer. Even so, please be mindful of dehydration symptons, carry fluids if you are worried, wear light colored clothing, and of course slow things down if you are getting hot!
Have a great run,
-- Erik
Hello Saturday Runners!
This Sat, June 21st, we will be running the Glover Panda Route for about 13 miles.
We will also be having mid-run drinks provided by Kerry O'Brien. These will be about 4 miles in giving you a chance to refuel. I also encourage everyone to get a drink at the water fountains located throughout the zoo about 7 miles in.
What fall marathons are people running? Marine Corps is the big local draw, but feel free to shoot me an email or tell me in person if you are running something else so I can plan the routes accordingly for summer and fall.
The weather is heating up so take it easy, hydrate, and enjoy the shade in Glover Park! Have a great run!
